Print Solutions: Advantages of Using Lithographic & Digital Printing

Customers want new and innovative ways to get their brand out into the marketplace and we have equipped our print solutions team with the latest design and manufacturing techniques to ensure that this happens and that every project has a wow factor.

But what is the difference between lithographic and digital printing?

Both lithographic and digital printing have their unique advantages, with each process suitable for a variety of jobs and applications. In simple terms digital printing uses inks and a press that’s similar to a large office printer whereas lithographic printing uses wet ink and printing plates.

These plates have an image burned into them which is then transferred (or offset) onto rubber blankets and then onto the printing surface. Digital printing is more suitable for shorter runs and lithographic printing for longer runs.

Not limited to paper

Lithographic printing can be used to print a range of different materials, such as magazines, brochures, stationery and leaflets and can print on a number of different surfaces. Not limited to just paper, lithographic printing can be used to print on plastic, wood, cloth, leather and metal – giving your print marketing a unique and creative edge.

Cost Effective

Lithographic printing is the preferred option amongst new businesses and start-ups and is very economical. It can be used on short run work through to well over a million copies. Using this printing method offers excellent value, a large choice of print substrates and a wide variety of ink and coating options. The more material you print the less it will cost you per copy.

Quality

With lithographic printing you can be assured that your business’s printed materials will be of the highest possible quality. Whether you are printing posters, brochures or business cards you will want to ensure that all of your printed materials are of the highest possible quality as it reflects the quality of your business.

Time Saving

Quick turnaround as the job is produced in its finished format with no additional drying time required. Unlike lithographic printing, there is no need to prepare plates so only minimal set-up time is required.

Accurate & Cost effective

There will be less waste and discrepancies due to the elimination of the manual process. Low-cost involving small volume printing. As the unit cost of every quantity may be more than with lithographic printing, included set up costs in digital printing results in lower costs for some print processes.

Personalisation & Variable data

Variable Data Printing allows for the customisation of individual graphics or text on a print by print basis. Every impression on the paper can be different, making digital ideal for personalised direct mail campaigns.
